Sea and culture: enjoy your holidays in Sicily with Dh villas

If you love the type of holiday where you can relax on the beach and also discover new cultures, Sicily is the right place for you! Fantastic nature reserves, Caribbean-like beaches, Baroque cities, temples and amazing food to be discovered and tasted in the colourful markets, restaurants or directly in your Sicilian rental villa!

History and Culture

Some of the cities that truly deserve a visit are Palermo with its magnificent cathedral, Catania and its historical Baroque centre, Siracusa and the island of Ortygia, Trapani and Marsala, which is famous for its wine. There are countless small villages like Erice, which stands over Trapani with its Medieval village centres and narrow streets full of crafts shops, Cefalù the seaside village at the foot of a rocky headland and the beautiful Taormina with its Greek Amphitheatres and Isola Bella. In Modica, Noto and Scicli you will find other examples of Baroque architecture, while in Punta Secca you will be able to recognise some of the settings for the TV series Il Commissario Montalbano. History lovers cannot leave without exploring at least one of the many archaeological sites. Lastly, don’t forget your souvenir photo next to a colourful Sicilian carretto, the symbol of this island.

Nature and Leisure

The sea in Sicily is the true protagonist and our villas are just ideal for a relaxing holiday on the golden beaches like the ones at San Vito lo Capo, Marina di Ragusa, Scicli and Scoglitti and natural paradises like the coves in the Zingaro Reserve, Scopello bay with its sea stacks or the beach at Realmonte known as Scala dei Turchi. The Saline di Marsala are inside the Isole dello Stagnone Reserve, which offer a magical spectacle with their salt mountains and windmills. The magic continues on the islands, including the amazing colours of the sea on Levanzo, the coves on Favignana, the beautiful islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa, where you can visit the Spiaggia dei Conigli with its population of turtles.

THE TASTES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

Sicilian cooking brings the tastes and colours of the Mediterranean to the table. Tuna, sword fish and sea urchins are the island’s three delicacies. You can try many types of couscous in San Vito lo Capo, where there is even a festival dedicated to it held each year in September. Fresh orange juice, panelle, pane cunzato, capers, caponata, pistachios from Bronte, genovesi and almond biscuits, cannoli…the list of traditional food and products goes on and on!
