Le Marche

Le Marche

Rent a villa in Le Marche to discover Italy all in one region

Although not very well known, Le Marche is a wonderful region full of history, art and nature. In the space of a few short kilometres you can travel from hillside villages to the Adriatic coast, where the Monte Conero beaches are not to be missed. Before leaving, don’t forget to buy some local artisans’ creations and some local food and wine products.

History and Culture

If you travel from the north to the south of Le Marche, every town and village tells a story about a different era or famous personalities. Urbino, the symbolic town of the Rinascimento with its Palazzo Ducale, Pesaro, founded by the Romans and known as the birthplace of the composer Rossini, Gradara with its Rocca di Paolo e Francesca and all the other small historic towns with their castles, fortresses and churches which are a priceless heritage for the region. In Ancona, the region’s capital, you can admire the splendid Cathedral of San Ciriaco, in Loreto you can visit the majestic basilica, while in Macerata the Sferisterio is one of the most important monuments, which plays host to the Macerata Opera Festival season each year. The old town centre of Ascoli Piceno and Piazza del Popolo with its characteristic travertine marble slabs is one of the most famous in Italy.

Nature and Leisure

Nature is a protagonist in Le Marche and each season offers something different in the way of leisure. The Sibillini Mountains are perfect for hiking and skiing as soon as the first snow falls. You can walk in the woods and along adventurous routes, like the one that leads to the Lame Rosse canyon or visit the underground Frasassi caves or ride through the Furlo Gorge all year round. In the summer, renting a villa by the sea is the ultimate relaxation and you can enjoy the velvet-like beach in Senigallia, the Palme Riviera in San Benedetto del Tronto or the crystal-clear waters of the Monte Conero Riviera.

THE VILLAGES WHERE TIME HAS STOOD STILL

The inland of Le Marche has endless small villages, many of which included in the list of the most beautiful villages of Italy. They are the panoramic points of the region, from where you can see the countryside, the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Authentic places where you can discover traditions and tastes of local food in the characteristic shops or small restaurants that are hidden away in the narrow streets of the old village centres.
